Currently having a moment of “grief” with this piece🥹 I’ve been working on it on and off for about a year, and I think it’s time to set it aside for now and dive into some new repertoire. Although I adore this piece so much I’m already looking forward to the next time I relearn it🥰 Letting go always comes with mixed emotions. I’m incredibly grateful for the journey — for how much this piece has pushed me and helped me grow — but I’ve never quite felt fully satisfied performing it. There are always many things I wish had come across better. But I guess that’s the nature of it — of music, of growth, of life💃🏻 One of the biggest things I’ve gained from working on this piece is learning to let go of my ego when it comes to performing. I finally feel at peace with the idea that a performance not going how I hoped doesn’t make me a bad musician or artist — it just means there’s room to grow, and I’ll try again next time. Showing up and trying is enough. That might sound simple, but it’s taken me years to truly believe it. Detaching my self-worth from how I play has really helped me take a more objective view of performing, and honestly, it’s made it easier to get out of my own head — both in music and outside of it.
